  • Yield: 4 poutine burgers 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the burgers:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup diced onions
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 burger buns

For the poutine:

  • 4 cups frozen French fries
  • 1 1/2 cups beef gravy (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 cups cheese curds (preferably fresh and squeaky, but mozzarella pearls can be substituted in a pinch)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, diced onions, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into burger patties.
  3. Heat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or to your desired level of doneness.
  4. Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until they are lightly browned.
  5. While the burgers are cooking, bake the frozen French fries in the oven according to the package instructions until they are crispy and golden.
  6. In a saucepan, heat the beef gravy until it’s hot and simmering.
  7. Assemble your burgers by placing a burger patty on each bun. Top with cheese curds and French fries and generously pour the hot gravy over everything. Top with the other half of the bun and enjoy your delicious creation!

Notes

For the best results, you’ll want to look for high-quality cheese curds that are super fresh and squeaky. You may be able to find them at your local specialty grocery stores but if not, you can also order them online from sites like Cheese Bros. Feel free to customize your burger with your favorite toppings like lettuce, tomato, pickles, or sautéed mushrooms. Don’t forget a side of coleslaw or a crisp pickle to balance out the richness of the burger and poutine. Enjoy your meal!
