  • Yield: 46 servings 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the homemade BBQ sauce:

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef and ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onions, beaten egg, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. You should have around 20-25 meatballs.
  3. In a skillet over medium-high heat, add a splash of oil and brown the meatballs on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  4. In a saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens slightly. Pour the homemade barbecue sauce over the meatballs and let them simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  5. Serve these scrumptious barbecue meatballs immediately and enjoy!

Notes

To ensure moist and tender meatballs, avoid overmixing the meat mixture during the preparation stage. Also, feel free to customize the level of spiciness by adding a dash of hot sauce to the barbecue sauce. These meatballs are fantastic when served with coleslaw, macaroni salad, or garlic mashed potatoes.

Chef’s tip: Make the meatballs ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator or freezer until you’re ready to cook.
