Tacos, oh glorious tacos! Is there anything more satisfying than sinking your teeth into a crunchy hard shell filled with flavorful ground beef, topped with all your favorite fixings? These tacos are loved for their versatility, as you can customize them with an array of toppings such as shredded cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, salsa, and sour cream. You really can’t go wrong!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 hard taco shells
  • Toppings: shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, diced onions, salsa, sour cream, guacamole (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until softened and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle the chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper over the ground beef. Stir well to coat the meat evenly with the spices. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  4. While the beef is cooking, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the hard taco shells on a baking sheet and warm them in the oven for about 5 minutes, or until they are crisp and heated through.
  5. Once the taco shells are warm, remove them from the oven and assemble your tacos. Spoon the seasoned ground beef into each taco shell, and then top with your desired toppings, such as shredded cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, salsa, sour cream, or guacamole.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a teaspoon of minced chipotle peppers in adobo sauce to the ground beef mixture. If you prefer a spicier kick, you can add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the ground beef seasoning. To prevent your taco shells from breaking or becoming soggy, make sure to warm them in the oven before filling them with the beef and toppings. If you want to make this recipe healthier, you can use lean ground beef or substitute it with ground turkey or chicken. Enjoy!
