  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 whole wheat buns
  • 4 slices gouda cheese
  • 1 large broccoli head, cut into florets
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Red pepper flakes, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, finely chopped red onion, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Divide the mixture into four portions and shape them into thick burger patties.
  3. Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the turkey burgers for about 5-6 minutes on each side or until they’re fully cooked and have an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
  4. In the last couple of minutes of cooking, place a slice of gouda cheese on top of each turkey patty to melt.
  5. While the burgers are cooking, heat olive oil in another pan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Add the broccoli florets and sauté for 4-5 minutes until tender. Finish with a sprinkle of lemon zest.
  6. Assemble your burgers by placing the gouda-topped turkey patty inside a wheat bun. Serve alongside the garlicky broccoli.

Notes

Achieving the perfect turkey burger texture involves not overmixing the ingredients. Gently combine the elements for the juiciest results. For those craving a bit of kick, adjust the red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level. As the gouda cheese melts onto the patties, a sublime layer of creaminess will embrace every bite. The garlicky broccoli side balances the meal with its fresh and zesty flavors. Enjoy!
