Craving restaurant-style filet without the price tag or hassle of going out to eat? Then this recipe is for you! Tender, juicy filet is paired with cilantro butter for a rich and herbaceous meal that’s sure to satisfy. What’s more, this delicious recipe can be made in just 25 minutes. Let’s begin!
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Cook Time: 15 minutes
- Total Time: 25 minutes
- Yield: 2 servings 1x
Ingredients
- 2 filet mignon steaks (6–8 ounces each)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Season the filets with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Heat the olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over high heat until hot but not smoking. Add the filets and sear for 2-3 minutes per side until browned.
- Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 6-8 minutes for medium-rare or until the desired doneness is reached.
- While the steak is cooking, make the cilantro butter. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Remove the butter from the heat and stir in the chopped cilantro and lime juice.
- When the steak is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving to allow the juices to redistribute. Top each filet with a spoonful of cilantro butter.
Notes
To ensure that your steak is cooked perfectly, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature — for medium-rare, the temperature should be 130°F (55°C). When making the cilantro butter, be sure to use fresh cilantro and lime juice for the best flavor. You can also experiment with different herbs and spices to create your own flavored butter. Serve the steak with your favorite side dishes, such as roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes for a complete meal.
