Pair this with...

Stir-Fried Sesame Snap Peas

Give your snap peas a good rinse and remove any stem ends or strings. Now, in a wok or large frying pan, heat up a couple of tablespoons of sesame oil over medium-high heat. When hot, chuck in the snap peas. Stir them about for 3-5 minutes or until they start getting these beautiful little blistered spots but still retain their vibrant green. While they’re dancing in the pan, sprinkle over a pinch of salt and a bigger pinch of toasted sesame seeds for that extra crunch and nuttiness. Before finishing, drizzle a tiny bit of soy sauce and give it one last good stir. Transfer to a plate, maybe sprinkle over a few more sesame seeds for show, and dive in!

Miso Soup

For this simple delight, you’ll need 4 cups of dashi (a type of Japanese stock) or water, 3 tablespoons of miso paste (white or red, based on your preference), a bunch of chopped green onions, and some silken tofu, cut into cubes. Optional but delicious: a handful of wakame (dried seaweed) – it adds depth! First, warm your dashi or water in a pot. In a separate bowl, mix miso paste with a bit of the warm liquid till smooth. Add this mix back into the pot. Toss in tofu, wakame, and heat gently – don't boil, as this kills the miso's goodness! Once hot, pour into bowls, sprinkle green onions, and slurp away.

Green Tea

Brewing the perfect cup begins with quality tea leaves, whether they're in a bag or loose. Start by boiling water, then let it cool slightly – you're aiming for just under boiling point, as water that's too hot can make the tea taste bitter. Add your tea to a teapot or directly to your cup, then pour the hot water over the leaves. Steep for about 1-3 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea. Remember, the longer you steep, the stronger and potentially more bitter the tea becomes. Once it's to your liking, remove the tea leaves or bag. You can enjoy green tea plain, or with a small dash of honey or lemon if desired.
