  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) pork loin, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 yellow pepper, sliced

For the sweet and sour sauce:

  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Dredge the pork pieces in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  2. In a deep skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (180°C). Carefully add the coated pork pieces to the hot oil in batches, frying until golden brown and crispy. Transfer the fried pork to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  3. In a separate skillet, heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and yellow peppers and sauté until they become slightly tender, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, rice vinegar, soy sauce, honey or brown sugar, cornstarch, and water until well combined. Pour the sauce over the sautéed onions and peppers. Cook, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and coats the vegetables, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the fried pork to the skillet with the sweet and sour sauce and vegetables. Gently toss everything together until the pork is coated with the sauce.

Notes

For best results, make sure the oil is at the right temperature before frying the pork to achieve a crispy exterior while keeping the inside tender and juicy. For added freshness, garnish with sliced green onions and a side of steamed broccoli or snap peas. Serve the sweet and sour pork over steamed white rice for a complete meal. Enjoy!
