- Prep Time: 5 minutes
- Cook Time: 20-25 minutes
- Total Time: 25-30 minutes
- Yield: 2 servings 1x
Ingredients
- 1 cup white rice
- 8 ounces minced pork
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder (if available)
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon white sesame seeds, toasted
Instructions
- Rinse the white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice following the package instructions.
- In a heated skillet or wok, add the minced pork and cook until it’s cooked through and slightly browned. Remove any excess oil, keeping about 1 tablespoon in the pan.
- Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, and five-spice powder. Pour the mixture into the skillet and stir to coat the pork.
- Add the water to the skillet and bring the mixture to a simmer. Allow it to braise for approximately 10 minutes until the sauce thickens and envelops the pork.
- To serve, place a portion of cooked rice in a bowl or on a plate. Top it with the braised minced pork.
- Garnish with chopped green onions, a drizzle of sesame oil, and toasted white sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
Feel free to tailor the sweetness and saltiness to your taste by adjusting the amounts of brown sugar and soy sauce. For even more tenderness, you can let the pork simmer longer, but just ensure it doesn’t become too dry. You can also add boiled eggs or blanched vegetables such as bok choy for extra flavor and nutrition if desired. Enjoy!
