Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 250g cavatelli pasta
  • 4 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 2 zucchini, sliced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for some heat)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for garnish
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Start by cooking the cavatelli pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. This usually takes around 10-12 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set it aside on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease.
  3. In the same skillet, add the olive oil and sliced zucchini. Sauté the zucchini for about 5 minutes, or until they become tender and slightly golden.
  4. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet with the zucchini. Sauté for an additional minute, until the garlic becomes fragrant.
  5. Return the cooked bacon to the skillet with the zucchini. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well to combine all the flavors.
  6. Add the cooked cavatelli pasta to the skillet and toss it with the bacon and zucchini mixture until everything is evenly coated.
  7. Serve the Cavatelli with Bacon and Zucchini hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.

Notes

You can use any type of pasta if cavatelli is not available. Fusilli, penne, or farfalle will work well too. Experiment with different herbs and spices to enhance the flavors. Fresh thyme or rosemary can add a fragrant touch. For a vegetarian version, you can omit the bacon and add sautéed mushrooms or sun-dried tomatoes for an umami boost. Pair this dish with a side salad of mixed greens and a tangy vinaigrette to balance out the richness. Enjoy!
