Ingredients

Units Scale

For the salmon burgers:

  • 1 lb (450g) fresh salmon fillets, skin removed
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh dill
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 burger buns
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced onions

For the dill aioli:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Start by preheating your grill or a skillet over medium heat.
  2. In a food processor, pulse the salmon fillets until coarsely chopped. Be careful not to over-process; you want some texture in your patty.
  3. Transfer the chopped salmon to a bowl and add the breadcrumbs, red onion, dill, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are combined. Let sit so flavors can meld while you make the dill aioli.
  4. Make the aioli by combining all aioli ingredients into a small bowl. Mix well then set aside.
  5. Now divide the salmon mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties.
  6. Place the salmon patties on the preheated grill or skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until the salmon is cooked through and the patties are lightly browned.
  7. While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.
  8. Assemble the salmon burgers by spreading a generous amount of dill aioli on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top with a salmon patty, lettuce leaves, sliced tomatoes, and sliced onions. Finish with the top bun.
  9. Serve your delicious salmon burgers immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For an extra kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili flakes to the salmon mixture. Be sure not to overcook the salmon patties to maintain their juiciness. Keep an eye on them while grilling or pan-searing. Customize your burger toppings to your liking. You can add avocado slices, pickles, or your favorite cheese for extra flavor. Pair your salmon burger with a side of crispy sweet potato fries or a refreshing cucumber salad for a complete meal. Enjoy!
