Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 onion, grated
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, grated onion, egg, salt, pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. Mix well until all the ingredients are fully combined.
  2. Form the mixture into small meatballs about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the meatballs to the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides.
  4. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set them aside.
  5. Reduce the heat to medium and add 2 tablespoons of flour to the skillet. Whisk the flour into the butter until it is fully combined and forms a paste.
  6. Slowly pour in 2 cups of beef broth, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
  7. Stir in 1/2 cup of heavy cream and return the meatballs to the skillet. Simmer for another 5-7 minutes, or until the meatballs are fully cooked and the sauce has thickened further.
  8. Serve the meatballs hot, garnished with chopped parsley.

Notes

For an extra burst of flavor, consider adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce to the sauce mixture. You may also want to use a cookie scoop to shape the meatballs which will ensure each meatball is the same size for even cooking. Serve with the starch of your choice and enjoy!
