Blackberry crisp is a delicious and easy dessert that you can make at home using fresh blackberries and a few simple ingredients. This dessert is perfect for summer when blackberries are in season (though frozen berries work well too). The combination of the sweet and tangy blackberries with the buttery, crumbly topping is simply irresistible.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 cups fresh blackberries
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease an 8-inch (20 cm) baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the blackberries with the white sugar and 1/4 cup of flour until well coated. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter pieces and use your hands or a pastry cutter to blend the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the top of the blackberries.
  5. Bake the crisp for 35-40 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the blackberries are bubbling.
  6. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

This blackberry crisp is perfect on its own or topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It’s a great dessert to make when you’re short on time but still want something delicious and homemade. You can also throw in other types of berries or extra fruit you may have on hand.
